We have finished our Monet's! They are beautiful, check them out next time you are in Arongen, they are decorating our halls and turning our school into a museum! For our next project the 2nd graders will be learning out the contemporary and commercial artist Laurel Burch. She has an inspiring life story. Born with osteoporosis, she lived her life in a lot of pain, and spent long stretches in bed or in a wheel chair. Her art is about finding beauty in all living things. As a testament to her character, she has been quoted as saying. "I refuse to have anything in my life that I can't turn around into something magical and beautiful." Her paintings are brightly and fancifully colored and adorned with wonderful patterns. The students will love discovering her art and creating their own Laurel Burch inspired animals.

2nd Grade classes are creating Claude Monet inspired paintings to learn about Line, Texture, and Warm/Cool Colors. We began this project with an introductory PowerPoint that taught us about the life of Claude Monet and his Impressionistic style of painting. We used his Japanese Footbridge painting from his garden as our inspiration. We are using masking tape, oil pastels, and water colors to create our inspired works of art. Check back for photos of our completed works!
